It depends on the occasion and how long you need them to burn. 10 inch sparklers burn for 30 to 40 seconds - fine for children, small parties and cake decorations. 18 inch sparklers burn for 60 to 100 seconds and suit most weddings and outdoor celebrations. 27 inch giant sparklers burn for up to three minutes and are the right choice for large weddings with 120 or more guests, processions and events where the lighting process takes time. If in doubt, go longer - running out before the moment is the most common sparkler mistake.

For weddings and any occasion where photography matters, gold is the right choice. It produces warm, classic sparks with minimal smoke and photographs beautifully in both flash and natural light. Coloured sparklers are more dramatic and suit Bonfire Night, Diwali and New Year's Eve celebrations where visual impact matters more than photographs. Coloured varieties produce more smoke, so work better in well-ventilated outdoor spaces where guests are not standing close together.

Buy one per person, plus 10 to 20 percent extra to cover any that fail to light, get dropped or are wanted by guests who want a second one. For a wedding exit with 80 guests, buy at least 96. For 150 guests, buy at least 170. Our bulk bundles are the most cost-effective way to buy in larger quantities. Buying slightly more than you need costs very little and removes the anxiety of running short at the key moment.

No. All outdoor sparklers must only be used outside. They produce heat, sparks and smoke not suitable for enclosed spaces. For indoor celebrations - cake presentations, restaurant birthdays, indoor venue moments - our ice fountains are specifically designed for indoor use and produce cold sparks safely without smoke. Never use outdoor sparklers indoors regardless of size or duration.

Children under 5 should not handle sparklers at all. Older children require direct adult supervision at all times. Show children how to hold the sparkler at arm's length, away from their face and body, and ensure they never run while holding one. The wire stays dangerously hot for several minutes after burning out - always put spent wires directly into a bucket of water. A useful tip for younger children: push the wire end into a carrot before lighting to give them a thicker, more comfortable handle further from the burning end.
