The backbone of any quiet display - multi-shot aerial fireworks that replace explosive reports with soft thuds and visual effects
Standard cakes and barrages use a large burst charge to explode effects wide into the sky, and that explosion is what makes them loud. Low noise cakes are formulated differently, using a smaller charge that gently unfolds stars, comets and glittering effects in the air rather than bursting them apart. The visual result is comparable. The sound is dramatically reduced.
You will still hear a soft thump as each shot launches from the tube, the lift charge that propels the effect skyward always produces some sound, and that is simply physics. But that launch thud is a dull, low-frequency sound that does not travel far, rather than the sharp, percussive crack of a standard firework that carries across an entire neighbourhood. Low noise cakes give you genuine multi-shot aerial sequences, full colour and sustained displays, they are the most versatile and important product in any quiet firework range.

Low noise cakes and barrages occupy the sweet spot of the quiet firework range. Quieter than low noise rockets because there is no motor propulsion, but with far more aerial drama and shot count than fountains and candles. They give your quiet display the structure, rhythm and sky-filling colour that makes a show feel complete rather than just a collection of ground effects.
Start with low noise fountains to open the display with ground-level colour and no aerial noise at all. Move into low noise cakes for sustained aerial sequences mid-show, varying effects between products for colour and pace variety. Use low noise Roman candles between cakes to add a different rhythm and fill gaps without extra bang.
For a bigger show, a low noise compound or larger barrage makes a strong quiet finale - delivering two to three minutes of aerial colour from a single fuse. Add one or two low noise rockets sparingly if height is important, but keep cakes at the centre of the display as they give the best balance of noise reduction and visual impact across the full range.
Low noise cakes carry the same safety requirements as standard cakes. Place each cake on flat, stable ground and ensure it cannot tip over before lighting. Do not place cakes directly on grass that could be uneven - use a flat board or paving slab underneath if needed. Light the fuse at arm's length using a firework lighter or portfire and retire immediately to the minimum safety distance before the first shot fires.
Most low noise cakes are Category F2 requiring a minimum of 8 metres between the firework and spectators, though some larger barrages may require more - always check the product label before buying. Despite their reduced noise, pets should still be kept indoors during any display with background music or TV. Even a soft launch thud can be enough to startle an anxious animal.

Standard cakes use a large burst charge to explode effects wide into the sky - that explosion is the bang. Low noise cakes use a smaller charge that gently unfolds stars, comets and glittering effects in the air rather than bursting them apart. You still get full aerial sequences, sustained shot counts and strong visual colour, but the sharp percussive crack is replaced by a soft visual break. The launch thud as each shot leaves the tube remains, as that is unavoidable, but it is a dull low-frequency sound that does not travel far.
Yes, a soft thump as each shot launches from the tube is unavoidable, as every aerial firework needs a lift charge to propel the effect skyward. That launch thud is a low-frequency sound that does not carry far, rather than the sharp crack of a standard firework that travels across entire streets. The aerial break itself is near-silent, replaced by the visual crackle, glitter or split of the effect rather than an explosive report. Some low noise cakes may also produce soft crackling effects which are part of the chosen visual performance.
For most displays, yes. Low noise cakes sit in the sweet spot of the quiet range, quieter than low noise rockets because there is no motor propulsion, but with far more aerial drama and shot count than fountains and Roman candles. They give a quiet display its structure, rhythm and sky-filling colour, making them the natural centre of any low noise show regardless of what else you fire alongside them.
Yes. Low noise cakes are one of the most popular choices for wedding displays, garden parties and residential celebrations where noise needs to be kept to a minimum. They deliver the visual spectacle - aerial colour, multi-shot sequences and sustained displays, that makes a fireworks show feel complete, without the sharp reports that disturb guests, neighbours and venue restrictions. Many wedding venues now require low noise fireworks only, and cakes are the product that carries a quiet wedding display.
Yes, though the best quiet displays combine cakes with other low noise product types for variety. Open with low noise fountains for the quietest possible start, use cakes for the main aerial sequences mid-show, intersperse low noise candles between cakes for pace variety, and close with a larger low noise barrage or compound as your finale. A complete, visually impressive quiet display is entirely achievable from our range with no standard fireworks needed at all.
