Big rockets - sky-filling bursts that rival professional display effects

Large 1.3G display rockets with maximum payloads, delivering the biggest single bursts available to consumers in the UK

Big rockets are a different product category to the rockets found in standard multi-packs. Where a typical pack rocket carries around 15g of explosive content, large display rockets carry 50g, 100g or up to 180g - the highest payload available to consumers in the UK. That difference in power translates directly into the sky: vast, sky-filling bursts with wide spread, strong colour and the kind of impact normally associated with professional public displays.

Big rockets are 1.3G classified and require a minimum safety distance of 25 metres, making them suitable for large gardens, fields and open outdoor venues rather than average-sized back gardens. They are the natural choice for display finales, high-impact punctuation in a larger show, or for anyone who wants a single rocket that genuinely impresses.

What sets big rockets apart?

  • Payloads of 50g to 180g NEC, vs around 15g in a standard pack rocket
  • Sky-filling bursts that rival professional display effects
  • 1.3G classification, significantly more powerful than 1.4G rockets
  • Heads up to 80mm diameter for maximum burst spread
  • Reach heights of up to 100 metres
  • Sold individually or in small packs of 3 to 6 for maximum impact

Where big rockets fit in your display

Big rockets work best as high-impact punctuation rather than continuous sequences. Fire one before your compound finale to draw the eye upward and signal the climax of the show. Use two or three spaced throughout the display at key moments to provide height, drama and crowd reaction that no cake or barrage can replicate.

For larger displays, 1.3G rockets are the only rockets that make a meaningful impact in a big open space. Smaller 1.4G pack rockets simply do not have the payload to be seen at distance. If you are running a display for a crowd in a field or at an event, big rockets are the right choice for the aerial height component.

Big rocket safety

Big rockets are Category F3 fireworks requiring a minimum safety distance of 25 metres between the launch point and spectators. This is not a guideline, it is a legal requirement. Ensure you have a clear, open outdoor space of at least 25 metres before buying. Always use a proper launch tube and stake it firmly into the ground so the rocket is stable and pointing directly skyward before lighting.

Check there is nothing overhead within the rocket's flight path - trees, cables and structures must all be clear. Light the fuse at arm's length using a portfire or long-handled lighter and retire immediately to a safe distance. Be aware that rocket sticks and spent casings fall back to earth after firing and can land some distance away, so ensure your downrange fallout area is clear of people before lighting.

The difference is in the payload. A typical rocket from a standard multi-pack carries around 15g of explosive content. A large display rocket carries 50g, 100g or up to 180g - the legal maximum for a consumer rocket in the UK. That is up to twelve times the power, which translates directly into a significantly wider burst, greater height and a sky-filling effect that smaller rockets simply cannot produce. Big rockets are 1.3G classified, sold individually or in small packs, and require 25 metres of clear space.

Rockets are the one firework type where the 1.3G versus 1.4G classification makes the most significant visible difference. 1.3G rockets can carry a much larger payload in the head than 1.4G, which directly affects the size, spread and brightness of the burst. For larger displays, public events or open-space firing, 1.4G pack rockets simply lack the power to make an impression at distance. If you want rockets that command attention in a large space, 1.3G is the right choice.

Big rockets are Category F3 and require a minimum of 25 metres between the launch point and spectators. You also need to consider the fallout zone downrange, as rocket sticks and spent casings fall back to earth after firing and can land well beyond the spectator area. Large gardens, fields and open outdoor venues are suitable. Average back gardens typically do not provide enough space - check the safety distance on every product page before buying.

Always confirm you have 25 metres of clear space before buying.

Fewer than you might think. Big rockets work best as high-impact punctuation at key moments rather than continuous firing. Two or three spaced throughout a display at carefully chosen points create more impact than a dozen fired in quick succession. Use one to open the show with a dramatic statement, one or two mid-display at peak moments, and save your largest rocket for immediately before the compound finale. Quality and placement matter more than quantity with big rockets.

Only if your garden provides at least 25 metres of clear space to spectators. Many average-sized gardens do not meet this requirement, in which case our standard rocket range includes excellent Category F2 options with 8 to 15 metre safety distances that are far better suited to typical gardens. If you have a large garden or open space, big rockets are genuinely spectacular. If you are in any doubt about your available space, contact our team before ordering.
