Daylight Smokes

Standard fireworks rely on luminous aerial bursts that are washed out by sunlight and difficult to see in daylight. Coloured smoke works the opposite way, the dense pigmented cloud is vivid and dramatic in broad daylight, showing up clearly against natural outdoor backgrounds and photographing beautifully in natural light. For daytime events, gender reveals and outdoor photography shoots, smoke grenades are the right product where standard fireworks are not.

Yes, this is a real risk worth planning for. Coloured smoke can temporarily stain light-coloured clothing, surfaces and grass, with darker colours such as red, blue and black carrying the greatest risk. Hold the grenade at arm's length away from white clothing, keep it away from light-coloured walls and paving, and be aware of wind direction. Most staining on clothing washes out with standard laundering. If you are using smokes at a wedding, plan where you will activate them carefully.

Yes. Smoke grenades are Category F1, the lowest firework classification, and produce no flames, no sparks and no aerial effects. They are one of the safest products in our range. Use them outdoors in an open space, hold at arm's length, keep children and guests at a comfortable distance during activation, and be aware of the staining risk to clothing if using pink or blue near light-coloured fabrics. Wire pull versions require no lighter or ignition tool, making them the simplest choice for a reveal moment.

Duration depends on the format. Wire pull smoke grenades typically produce smoke for around 60 seconds, while larger handheld smoke flares can run for up to 90 seconds. For photography shoots, 60 seconds is usually sufficient for several shots, but buying two or three gives you a practice run and ensures you capture the moment you want, particularly for group shots or walking sequences.
