Cakes and Barrages under £30

A firework cake - also called a barrage or single ignition firework - is a box containing multiple tubes fused together. Light one fuse and it fires a pre-planned sequence of shots automatically, producing a continuous aerial display of coloured stars, comets, mines and breaks. Shot counts range from 9 to over 200 depending on the size. At under £30, you can expect cakes of around 16 to 50 shots lasting 15 to 45 seconds of sustained aerial activity.

All products meet the same safety and quality standards regardless of price - a £20 cake from Dynamic Fireworks is a genuinely good product. The difference from higher-priced cakes is size, shot count and duration, not quality.

In practice, the terms are used interchangeably by most retailers including Dynamic Fireworks - both refer to a multi-shot single ignition firework. Some manufacturers use "barrage" to indicate a faster, more intense firing pattern with shots in quick succession, and "cake" for a more measured sequence. In our range, both terms describe the same product type. Check the video and shot count rather than the name when comparing products.

Place the cake on flat, stable ground and secure it to a stake or post using tape or cable ties to prevent it tipping over during firing. Check the safety distance on the product - most cakes in this price range are Category F2 with an 8 to 15 metre safety distance. Light at arm's length using a portfire and retire immediately. Never lean over a cake to inspect it during or after firing - wait 20 minutes before approaching any firework that fails to light.
